Video Uploads!

Okay, so maybe lots of other people have discovered this way before me, but I'm excited. I found a website to which I can post my own little videos. I kept wishing I could do this on Flickr, but to no avail. Enter You Tube, a free service where you can post videos up to 10 minutes and 100MB per file.

I've uploaded two videos from our walk from the Fire Island Lighthouse to Kismet, but what ended up being to Saltaire. Check the Flickr photoset from the previous post for more details on the trip, but click the video links below to see the vids.

Fire Island Photos

Well, I finally got through the lengthy job of integrating my regular camera and camera phone pictures from our recent vacation to Fire Island, New York, labeling them, sorting through the ones for upload and the ones not for upload, then arranging them in a photoset with descriptions. Phew!

There are beach pictures, lighthouse pictures, restaurant and meal pictures, and more.

There are lots of pictures in the set, but lots of stories too. Click our picture (taken by the Fire Island lighthouse) to go to the set. Don't use the slideshow option, or you won't get the commentary.

Ames, Iowa

This week I flew to Des Moines, Iowa then drove a rented PT Cruiser up to Ames, for a client site visit. I went to grad school in Iowa City, so the area was somewhat familiar. I even saw part of RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) on the way back. Click the mural for more photos and stories.

Shuttle Launch

T minus 3 minutes, and I'm glued to C-SPAN, waiting for the launch of Shuttle Discovery. I'm such a sap, I'll probably be crying in a few minutes.

The Guyfriend and I watched the last one (the first one after the explosion) in my cube at the old job, in a little streaming video window. It's much better in full color on a big tv.

The Girl is out golfing. It's pouring out. She'll be home soon, but hopefully not before my tears of joy and hope for the future of space exploration have dried.

Such a geek.
UPDATE (2:48 pm): The shuttle is now in its preliminary orbit, and they are showing the staff at Kennedy Space Center. They all looked so calm, and just as I was thinking that I'd be jumping up and down if I were there and everything had gone well, they started some initial handshaking, then much to my relief they converted to hugs and smiles and thumbs up all around. Much better. Control has now shifted over to Johnson Space Center in Texas.

First Anniversary

The Girl and I had our first wedding anniversary on Sunday, and we celebrated with dinner at The Fireplace in Brookline, near Cleveland Circle. It was absolutely delicious, of course. When we got home, we dug into the top layer of the wedding cake which had been in the freezer waiting for the anniversary. Everyone had warned us that wedding cake never keeps well, but in this case they were absolutely wrong. It's FABULOUS! The Girl had said that we would each have a little bit then take the rest in to our offices for the coworker locusts to feed upon, but I'm not letting it leave this house!

Click the restaurant photo below to see a small photoset of dinner, etc. Remember to click on each picture in the set to see the descriptions.
