Told Again, Buh-Bye

Earlier this week I posted my hope that the Navy would return the rescinded signing bonus to a sailor that had been discharged under Don't Ask, Don't Tell but who was then recalled to active duty in Kuwait.

Well, that wish apparently won't be coming true. Even though they recalled him with full knowledge that he was gay and that he had already told (given that they officially, on the record booted him for it), the Navy has now once again announced that he will be discharged - again - under Don't Ask, Don't Tell, because he told his story of being recalled.

This all makes SO much sense.

Come Back, Gay Soldier reports that the Navy has recalled to duty a sailor they previously discharged for being gay. When they discharged him the Navy took back his $13,000 signing bonus as part of the booting out package. I hope now that they've recalled him for one year in Kuwait (but he's hoping to be able to continue in the service beyond the required time), they'll reinstate his bonus as well.

And by the way, he's no longer concerned about telling and it's not causing unit cohesion problems.

24 Hours of Flickr

Flickr had an event today, 24 Hours of Flickr. The idea is you take pictures documenting your day throughout today, May 5. Everyone can submit one photo to the group. Right now there are 22,437 members, and 1,718 photos, including mine. I had another day of mostly studying, but with a few diversions. Click on my submitted photo below to get to my whole set for the day, or go here to see all the 24 hour submissions. Very cool pics.

Cats, Camera and Studying

One exam left, UCC: Sales on Monday. Thursday's exam went well once I arrived - 10 minutes late after crawling along the Mass Pike for over an hour. The Boys are always there to help me study, so I played with them and my new camera for a few minutes today. I'm getting the hand of the light meter and moving the focus. Click on Aspen (on his designated desk area despite his repeated attempts to lay on my books or in my lap) to see more. Plus a couple of that rascally penguin.

Adventures in Drying

The dryer we've been using is the gas dryer that I think was original to the house in 1980, and our gas bills have reflected this. Last weekend while I studied for the tax exam, The Girl went out and picked out a new, efficient, large capacity one from the Sears scratch and dent up the road. Of course, as The Girl's matron of honor says, "It's not just the thing. It's the thing FOR the thing."

It wasn't just the dryer, it was the delivery for the dryer. And the plumber to hook up the dryer. And the town inspector to okay the hookup by the plumber of the dryer. And the new metal duct. And the doorframe. Click on the picture for the small photoset and accompanying tale.

One Down, On to the Next

Well, the Taxation of Business Entities exam is done. I was the second person done, but I finished with about 4 minutes left to the three hour exam. That's about all I have to say about that.

Next up - Employee Benefits Law, Thursday (5/3) at 6:00 pm.

In other news, the new dryer is on tap for delivery today. The plumber is scheduled to hook it up (natural gas) tomorrow.

This afternoon Middle Sister is swinging by and we're going down to the MetroWest YMCA to sign ourselves and The Girl up for Sunday morning yoga classes.

Sienna, September 2001

More pictures from our Italy trip six years ago. These are from our trip to Sienna. One of our main goals was a particular pasticceria, which we finally found after a winding tour through the back alleys. Click on the furry resident below to get to the full set and stories.
